The Aristides S. (G3) at Churchill has drawn a very competitive field of eleven with Sok Sok the Prime Power pick. Trained by Steve Asmussen Sok Sok won three stakes races over the winter at Fair Grounds and most recently finished fifth in the Churchill Downs Sprint (G2) on Derby day. Sok Sok is trained by Steve Asmussen and will be partnered by regular rider Shawn Bridgmohan, a combination that has been winning at a 23 percent clip with a positive ROI, and qualifies as a Hot Trainer/Jockey Combo on the Brisnet Insider Picks and Power Plays sheet.
A close second ranked on the Prime Power, and tabbed as the lukewarm morning line favorite, in the Aristides is the tough campaigner Semaphore Man who, through winning nine of his 22 starts at this trip, is a Distance Specialist on the Insider Picks Power Plays but will be making his first appearance at Churchill. Semaphore Man ranks top on the Current Class and Average Class Last 3 categories on the Brisnet Ultimate Past Performances Summary in large part due to his latest win in the Count Fleet H. (G3) at Oaklawn in which he defeated Accredit who subsequently won the Churchill Downs Sprint.
Other options in the Aristides include Premium Wine who will make his first start for Steve Asmussen. third in last year's Carter H. (G1), Premium Wine will be running at this distance for the first time in eight starts, but is a Distance Specialist through winning three of his four starts at six furlongs. Bold Start is noted as a Horse for the Course on the Insider Picks and Power Plays sheet with three wins at Churchill and the longshot trio of Early Return, Cassoulet and Garifine are all Clocker's Specials through fast recent works.
The Dogwood S. (G3) at Churchill has attracted a field of nine three-year-old fillies headed by Luster who is a Three Star Best Bet on the Insider Picks and Power Plays sheet. Luster, an impressive allowance winner here on Derby Day is the clear Prime Power pick and also ranks top on the Speed Last Race, Average Class Last 3 and Late Pace Last Race categories in the Ultimate Past Performances Summary.
The Cool Air S. at Calder over five furlongs on the turf has drawn a field of eleven. Marina Ballerina who finished a very game second in the Giant's Causeway S. at Keeneland after setting fast fractions appears a standout if she can reproduce that performance. Trained by Kirk Ziade, (whose sprinters win at a 30 percent clip), Marina Ballerina is a near 20 point clear Prime Power pick.
Arlington's feature on Saturday is the Fit For A Queen S. over six and a half furlongs for fillies and mares. Choragus is the narrow morning line favorite and Prime Power Pick. However, she will be strongly challenged by Sly Storm. Trained by Tom Proctor, Sly Storm holds a sizeable advantage over this field on the Early Pace (E1 and E2) ratings found in the Ultimate Past Performances.
